Future Ready - Innovative Learning!
What is a Future Ready classroom? A Future Ready classroom is a space designed for the purpose of innovation and collaboration. Because of our extra tools (eSparks for one) we can really customize learning right to your child's unique needs so they get the support THEY need!
What does it look like? You will not find individual desks in straight rows, instead when you walk in you will see learning spaces pushed together for collaborative learning. We also off a wide variety of flexible seating - regular seats, soft seats, tall seats, short seats, standing "seats," even moving seats (sounds like a Dr. Suess book... red fish, blue fish).
Future Ready is not just about technology! We have fabulous technology and we use it when it benefits instruction. Let's face it, kids love technology. It is their future so teaching them the right way to use technology as a tool not just as a time filler is incredibly important to me. Technology opens up so many doors (good and bad). My goal is to teach all the great ways technology can help us learn. We also focus on what is means to be good digital citizens (so important these days!).
What about good old-fashioned books? I love a book you can hold! While you can read on-line (and some people prefer this method), I am still a believer in the traditional paper book! I have a HUGE leveled library available to my students. Raz-Kids, EPIC! and other on-line reading websites are wonderful (and we do use them occasionally since they offer so many good comprehension checks) but they will never replace good old books in my room!
What is the difference between Future Ready and traditional learning? In a Future Ready room we follow the same common core standards and research-based curriculum (Everyday Math, Lucy Caukins reading and writing workshops). What's different is our classroom has extra resources and tools (1:1 iPads and Apple TVs to name a few) to help supplement and differentiate instruction for all our unique learners. We focus on 21st century learners!
As a Future Ready teacher, I like to teach outside of the box. We push out of our 4 walls into a more global learning experience through ePals, Skype in the Classroom and Google Earth. We collaborate with our peers in real time through interactive reading logs and Frontier. We get parents involved by allowing parents access to all our daily to-dos and materials through Seesaw and Google Classroom. Parents can even watch many of my lessons at home! Do you want to know how your child is doing with their behavior? I use Class Dojo where you can login from home and see how your child is doing throughout the week.
My goal is to develop lifelong learners who love to learn! I'm excited and I hope you are too. And don't worry I will keep you as parents informed every step of the way!
